Service Properties stock jumps after TKO offers to buy hospitality portfolio for $2B
Service Properties shares surged following reports of TKO's proposed $2 billion hospitality portfolio acquisition.
Entry was considered after observing the upward breakout of the 20-day high resistance level ($7.05), accompanied by strong bullish news regarding a large-scale acquisition proposal for TKO.
Based on the current stock price ($7.15), if the price stabilizes with support near the 20-day high resistance level of $7.05, I will attempt to take profit with a target price of $7.05. However, if it fails to overcome the burden of the price discrepancy (disparity) and volume (1.12x), pulls back, and breaks the support level at $6.14, I will cut losses.
RSI(14) is at 40.6, which is not in the oversold territory but located in the neutral zone, and the moving averages are in a non-bullish alignment. Volume came in at 1.12 times the 20-day average, and the 7-day volatility (rate of change) recorded -2.4%.
Enticed by the strong positive catalyst of TKO's $2 billion hospitality portfolio acquisition proposal, I attempted an entry as the stock was spotted breaking upward through the 20-day resistance line ($7.05) on the 20th. However, the trade resulted in a FAILED rating with a -17.1% loss. At the time, volume came in at 1.12 times the 20-day average, with the 14-day RSI at 40.6 and moving averages in a non-aligned state. I sought to confirm whether the trend would stabilize near the support line ($6.14); however, failing to withstand the selling pressure following the surge, the price breached the support line and ultimately triggered the stop-loss threshold.
When chasing a short-term surge driven by a major M&A announcement, technical vulnerabilities—such as disaligned moving averages—must be evaluated more conservatively. Going forward, rather than entering immediately after a spike driven by positive news, we will strictly incorporate into our next trading criteria the approach of waiting to visually confirm that price defense is firmly established near the support level ($6.14) before executing trades.
